Get the garden back under control, and keep it that way.
I'm Ross. I do the work myself, I text before I come, and everything is $60 per hour with the hours agreed before I start. Upper Riccarton and the western suburbs of Christchurch.

Most people who call me used to keep on top of the garden themselves. Then work got busy, a wet month went by, and the weeds got ahead. Now the beds need a weekend you don't have, so it keeps not happening. I come every two or three weeks, or once to get it back under control, and the clippings leave with me.
What I do
-
01 Garden maintenance Regular visits, usually every two or three weeks, so the garden stays in hand. Weeding, pruning, hedges, edges, and the lawns while I am there.
-
02 Garden tidy ups One visit to get a garden back under control. Beds cleared, hedges shaped, edges cut, lawns done, clippings gone.
-
03 Hedge trimming Hedges trimmed to their line, or brought down to a sensible height, at the right time of year for the plant.
-
04 Lawn mowing Lawns mown and edged, on their own or as part of a garden visit. Caught or mulched, your call.
-
05 Pre-sale garden clean ups The garden tidied before the photos and the open homes. Front garden and entrance first, and everything taken away.
-
06 Overgrown garden clean ups A garden that has had a year or two to itself, cut back to a garden again, and kept that way if you want.
-
07 Rental property garden care Regular visits or a between-tenancy tidy, one point of contact, invoiced to whoever you tell me.
-
08 Body corporate garden care Shared lawns, beds and hedges at small complexes. One gardener, one invoice, one contact on the committee.
Prices
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Garden work, any service | $60 per hour* |
| Minimum, regular visits | 1 hour |
| Minimum, one-off jobs | 2 hours |
| Green waste removal | $30 minimum, which covers the first bag. Then $25 per 280 L bag or $40 per wool sack. Trailer loads are time at the hourly rate plus dump fees at cost. |
| Other waste (soil, rubbish, flax, bamboo, palm, anything mixed in) | $45 minimum, then time at the hourly rate plus dump fees at cost. |
Every service, lawns and hedges included, is charged at the same hourly rate for the time I am on site.
*I am under the GST threshold, so no GST is added. That could change at any time; if it does, GST goes on top of the rate and this page changes first.
A garden you don't have to think about.
How this works
There are two ways to start. Send me a few photos and I reply within 24 hours with the hours the job will take. Or book a visit straight away and I sort the scope with you on the day.
- 1. Get in touch. Send photos through the estimate form, text them to 028 416 1624, or book a visit online.
- 2. Agree the hours. From photos, I tell you the range of hours within 24 hours. If you have booked straight away, I look at the garden when I arrive and agree the hours with you before I start. Either way, if the job turns out bigger than expected I tell you before I keep going, and if you have a set budget I work inside it and do the most useful things first.
- 3. I turn up and do the work. A text the day before and another when I am on my way. The clippings leave with me, and the invoice is for the hours worked, with a photo of the garden as I left it if you were not home.
Waste. Everything I cut leaves with me unless you would rather it went in your green bin. Removal is priced per bag in the Prices table.
What you get
The same person every visit.
I do the work myself. The person who looks at your photos, gives you the hours and turns up with the tools is me, every time, so you are never explaining the garden to someone new.
A text before I come.
You know the day. If it has to change, you hear from me first, with the same 24 hours' notice I ask of you.
The hours are agreed before I start.
Everything is $60 per hour. You know the rate before you call and the hours before I begin. If the garden turns out bigger than the photos showed, I tell you before I keep going.
Where I work
The west side of Christchurch, from Fendalton out to Hornby and down to Halswell. The suburbs are below. If yours is just off the list, ask.
About Ross
I studied ecology at Lincoln and have worked in gardens and on restoration planting since my uni days, so I know what a plant is before I cut it. I weed by hand, prune at the right time of year, and do every visit myself. I live in Upper Riccarton and work the suburbs around it.
